Angina Pectoris
SYMPTOMS. The first sign is pain in the center of the chest, behind the
breastbone. This is usually brought on by overexertion. The pain may spread
to the fingers via the left shoulder and down the inside of the left arm. It
may go straight through into the back. Another line may be into the throat,
jaw and teeth and down the right arm. The pain usually stops when the
activity stops. If not, this may indicate a heart attack.
CAUSES. It is caused by a coronary artery disease. The fatty deposits reduce
circulation in the arteries feeding the heart muscle.
TREATMENT. Surgery bypass of the coronary artery may be required.
.Nitroglycerin or other drugs may be prescribed to stop angina attacks.
.The underlying coronary artery disease must be treated.
.Smoking, excess weight and high blood pressure will have to be corrected.
